PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a prophylactic and/or a therapeutic agent for matrix metalloproteinase-related diseases and to provide a method for screening a substance for exasperating TIMP production. SOLUTION: The prophylactic and/or therapeutic agent for matrix metalloproteinase-related diseases comprises a polysulfated polysaccharide as an active ingredient. The method for screening the substance for accentuating the production of a tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP) comprises adding a substance to be screened to a synoviocyte and assaying the production quantity of the tissue inhibitor of the matrix metalloproteinase.
