The invention describes a leak-tight junction between a first material and a second, plastically deformable, material which junction stays leak-tight under temperatures, pressures and radiation levels experienced in a nuclear reactor. The junction comprises a graphite layer between the first and the second material pressed against each other by means of a high pressure forming operation with a force with adequate strength to form the junction. The graphite foil used between the first and the second material according to the present invention preferably is a pure graphite foil. Such leak-tight junctions between a first material and a second, plastically deformable, material, can be realised by depositing a graphite foil between a surface portion of the first material and a surface portion of the second material where the junction is to be made, and by thereafter deforming said second material against said first material at the location of the junction to be made, with a force having adequate strength to produce the junction. The step of deforming the second material and producing the junction may be done e.g. by means of a fast magnetic forming technique, or by means of an explosive compression technique.

|
