A second spring 13 located in a horizontal bore 16 in the bed B and which engages the turret slide is provided to eliminate back-lash between the rack and gear sector, the second spring 13 being of a lower rate than that of the first spring 7. Means is also provided to define a fixed stop position for the index shaft 2 and which includes a plunger member 11 under the bias of a third spring 10 and which engages a cam 21 on the indexing shaft 2. The indexing of the turret is effected in sequence with the reciprocation of the turret slide by the connecting link 3 between the slide and the indexing shaft 2 which indexes the turret by way of a Geneva mechanism.
