<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength converter which has satisfactory controllability and is capable of controlling wavelength modulation at a high speed with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This wavelength converter has a periodic structure 1 and periodic structure modulation means 2 for applying modulation to the periodic structure; the periodic structure includes a medium, having a secondary or ternary nonlinear optical effect in order to induce parametric conversion or four light wave mixing in the periodic structure; and the periodic structure modulation means changes the wavelength of the signal light 5 and idler light 6 in the parametric conversion or the exit light wave in the four-wave mixing.</p> |
