PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a state evaluation method and a state evaluation device capable of quantifying the state of an object to be measured by expressing the state evaluation of the object to be measured as a concrete numerical value. SOLUTION: This state evaluation method for an object to be measured comprises: (1) a process for irradiation of light on a predetermined region of the object to be measured to receive reflected light or transmitted light from the predetermined region and thereby obtaining luminance information, (2) a process for dividing the predetermined region of the object to be measured by a predetermined image size to calculate a luminance value of each divided section based on the luminance information and thereby calculating a variation coefficient corresponding to the predetermined image size based on the luminance value of each section, (3) a process for repeating the calculation of the variation coefficient while changing the dimension of the predetermined image size, and (4) a process for producing measurement result group coordinates based on the plural image sizes and the plural variation coefficients and thereby calculating an area formed between a graph obtained by plotting the produced measurement result group coordinates on a predetermined plane and a reference line.
