PURPOSE: A field emission display having a focus electrode of co-planar structure and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce the number of processes, facilitate mounting of a spacer, and avoid spreading of an electron beam. CONSTITUTION: A field emission display comprises a gate electrode(420), an emitter pixel(430) and a focus electrode(410). The gate electrode(420) is formed across the center of the emitter pixel(430). The focus electrode(410) is arranged separated from the gate electrodes(420) in a co-plane and surrounds the gate electrode(420). The gate electrode(420) surrounds the emitter pixel(430). In order to avoid spreading of an electron beam in the area of the emitter pixel(430) that is not surrounded by the focus electrodes(410), the center portion(431) of the emitter pixel(430) is removed when the pixel is defined by manufacturing an initial mask. A cross type spacer is formed on the focus electrode(410) for grounding of the focus electrode(410).
