PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discriminate between a higher harmonic component contained in the response signal of biological tissue and a higher harmonic component contained in the response signal of a contrast medium to extract both components. SOLUTION: A band-pass filter 34 for extracting a specific frequency component from a response signal received by irradiating a living body with ultrasonic waves in consideration of that the response signal of the contrast medium is distributed in a wide frequency band and also has high signal intensity is provided and the band width of the band-pass filter 34 is set to 0.8-2.5 f0, desirfably, 0.8-1.8 f0, more desirably, 1.2-1.8 f0 without being limited to twice higher harmonic 2 f0 as is conventional and the higher harmonic component contained in the response signal of the contrast medium is extracted in a relatively high ratio as compared with the higher harmonic component of tissue.
