<p>A roller 2 for feeding sheets 1 has the end of its shaft 3 formed with projections 3a, which are received in arcuate recesses 30b extending from a bore formed in shaft-driving gear 30. Some freedom of relative rotational movement between gear and roller is thus provided. Gear 30 and a gear 8a are driven so that roller 8 has a surface speed higher than that of roller 2 as the latter feeds the leading end of a sheet towards roller 8. When roller 8 engages the sheet, it acts through the sheet to accelerate roller 2, projections 3a moving within recesses 30b to accommodate the resulting difference in rotational speeds between roller 2 and gear 30.</p> |
