PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing fiber having a persistent mothproof effect (a repellent effect and an insecticidal effect) on harmful insects such as mosquitoes, to provide the fiber having an excellent mothproof effect obtained by the method, and to provide a textile product therefrom. SOLUTION: This method for producing the mothproof polyvinyl alcohol fiber comprises subjecting spinning dope containing at least a vinyl alcohol polymer and an organic solvent to wet spinning or dry and wet spinning in a solidifying medium having ability for solidifying the polyvinyl alcohol polymer, then passing the spun yarn through at least an extracting process where the yarn is immersed in an extracting medium which is used for extracting the organic solvent composing the spinning dope and a drying process, wherein the extracting medium comprises an organic solvent-based extracting medium, and further at least a displacing process for applying a displacing solution which is obtained by dissolving a slightly water-soluble insecticide in an organic solvent medium to the yarn is introduced into the method after a process for separating the solidifying medium but before the drying process.
