<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter excellent in waterproofness without using a drain pipe. SOLUTION: A groove 16 constituting a part of a ventilation passage of a motor chamber is formed in the second step surface 6b of a frame 6 to nip a seal member 4 between a plate 3 and the frame, and the second step surface 6b is extended in the peripheral direction. Protrusions 17 to zigzag the groove 16 are formed in a plurality of spots in the middle of the groove 16. One end of the groove 16 is communicated with a reduction chamber 14 through an inner air communication port 18 and the other end of the groove 16 is communicated with outside air through an outside-air communication port 19. This constitution can set the length of the groove 16 to a proper length and, by zigzagging the groove 16 by forming the protrusions 17 in the middle of the groove 16, the groove 16 can be formed in the shape of a labyrinth. As a result, even when water splashing on the starter enters the internal part of the groove 16 through the outside-air communication port 19, the penetration of the water into the reduction chamber 14 can be prevented from occurring thank to a labyrinth effect caused by the length of the groove 16 and a labyrinth shape.</p> |
