PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a message processing apparatus capable of efficiently processing a message in which the kinds of fields or the appearance order thereof are indefinite depending on types, and a communication system capable of making communications of various information through a communication network using such a message. SOLUTION: On receiving a message (packet) transmitted over a network, a message processing apparatus 101 stores each field 115 constituting a header 102 and a payload 103 in a buffer memory 106. A message analyzing section 107 analyzes the message 104 and deliver the result to a header process control section 111. The section 111 makes each field processing module 113 in a header processing section 112 start to modify the content of each field 115, so that each field 115 in the buffer memory 106 is processed in a desired order. When the process is completed, each field 115 of the header 102 is read out in the modified order suitable for the process, and a message 121 added with the payload 103 is outputted.
