PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel material with adequate corrosion resistance and workability, as well as superior wear resistance against abrasive wearing to which hard particles intervene. SOLUTION: This wear resistant steel with high strength comprises; having a composition of 8-20 mass% Cr, 0.1-6 mass% Ni, 0.05-0.3 mass% C, 0.05-3.0 mass% of one or more kinds selected among Ti, Nb, Zr, V, and W, and the balance substantial Fe; having a total amount of carbides of Ti, Nb, Zr, V and/or W dispersed in matrix which is adjusted to be 0.1 mass% or more; and having a two-phase structure of a martensitic phase and a ferrite phase.
