PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerization catalyst for a polyester, which comprises a main component other than an antimony or germanium compound, and is excellent in catalytic activity giving a polyester excellent in thermal stability, thermal oxidation stability and hydrolysis resistance and to provide the polyester excellent in thermal stability, thermal oxidation stability and hydrolysis resistance. SOLUTION: At least one compound selected from aluminum salts of a phosphorus phosphorus compound having a specific structure is specified as the polymerization catalyst for the polyester and the polyester is polymerized by using the same.
