PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new azo dye which has a good hue and excellent light resistance (light fastness), and to provide a metal-containing azo dye. SOLUTION: An azo dye represented by the general formula (1) [R2 to R5 are each independently H, a halogen atom, OH, amino, an alkyl, an aryl, an alkoxy, an aryloxy, an alkylthio, an arylthiol, an alkylsulfonyl, an arylsulfonyl, an alkoxycarbonyl, an aryloxycarbonyl, an acyloxy, an acyl, carbamoyl, an acylamino, sulfamoyl, sulfonamido, cyano, or nitro; Z is a substituent having a dissociable proton; Cp is a group represented by (2) or (3)], and the metal- containing azo dye obtained by binding a metal to the azo dye represented by the general formula (1).
