METHOD OF PRODUCING POROUS GLASS PREFORM AND DEVICE OF PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a porous glass preform which is capable of reducing a tapered part formed at the end part of a soot body without increasing the number of burners, and also provide a device using the same. SOLUTION: The porous glass preform is produced by depositing glass particulates (soot) on a rotating starting rod with moving a turning position in traverse in the predetermined direction by enabling a rotating starting rod and a burner for synthesis of a glass particulate to relatively move in parallel to each other. The accumulation of soot is carried out in a way that spaces between burners located at both the ends in the relative moving direction and their adjacent burners are smaller than those between middle burners except burners at both ends.
