PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF 4,4'-BIPHENOL

A process for production of 4,4'-biphenol which comprises the following steps (a) to (c): the step (a) of dealkylating an alkyl-4,4'-biphenol to thereby obtain a reaction fluid containing 4,4'-biphenol, the step (b) of adding the reaction fluid obtained in the step (a) to a solvent selected from the group consisting of the following solvent systems (i) to (iv) to precipitate 4,4'-biphenol: (i) a solvent selected from among aliphatic hydrocarbons and aliphatic ketones, (ii) a solvent selected from among aromatic hydrocarbons, (iii) a mixed solvent consisting of the solvent (i) and a phenol, and (iv) a mixed solvent consisting of the solvent (ii) and a phenol, with the proviso that the solvent systems (i) to (iv) may further contain a basic substance, and the step (c) of separating the 4,4'-biphenol precipitated in the step (b).
