The invention refers to a device for active acoustical attenuation of noise radiating from an essentially cylindrically shaped component (10), the device comprising at least one sensor adapted to sense the noise radiating from the component, at least one actuator (6) adapted to act on the component and to cause vibrations which actively attenuate the noise, controller means (16) adapted to control the actuator in response to the sensed noise and to cause the actuator to actively counter said noise. The actuator (6) is adapted to act on the component via at least one elongated element (4) extending in a radial direction of the component, and causing the vibrations by moving the elongated element in its longitudinal direction. The invention also refers to a method of reducing noise radiating from an essentially cylindrically shaped component (10) using such a device. An advantageous use of the device is for attenuation of noise radiating from an air-cored reactor. |
