PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foot lighting system for an elevator car that realizes an appreciable foot lighting effect by virtue of a sufficiently broad formation across the face of a car floor and lighting down to the edges of a translucent plate. SOLUTION: A light source chamber 6 is recessed down from the floor face 7 in the middle of the car floor 2, and is equipped with light sources 8. Columnar supports 12 are raised in the light source chamber 6 and located in respective four corners, and the translucent plate 13 is fitted in the light source chamber 6 so that a top face is flush with the floor face 7. A cushion 14 is interposed between internal walls of the light source chamber 6 and outer end faces of the translucent plate 13, and upper ends of support elements 15 are fixed in the translucent plate 13 and lower ends thereof are supported for horizontal displacement on upper end faces of the supports 12. The car floor 2 can thus have the light source chamber 6 with a sufficiently broad effective opening area, so that light from the light sources 8 reaches the edges of the translucent plate 13 to eliminate a dim area.
