PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus therefor for cleaning a water reservoir, being able to clean the water reservoir under the operating condition, and not requiring rejecting valuable water in the water reservoir, by sucking in sediment accumulated on the bottom of the water reservoir such as a clean water reservoir or a distributing reservoir in a water purification plant and thereafter by separating water from the sediment and returning the water as purified water to the original reservoir or supplying to another reservoir. SOLUTION: The method for cleaning to remove sediment from a water reservoir 1 wherein the sediment accumulated on the bottom of the water reservoir 1 is sucked out, and water is separated from the sucked sediment, and the separated water is returned to the water reservoir 1 or supplied to another reservoir.
