PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulator for an automobile mounted on the indoor surface of a body panel to achieve weight reduction while increasing the efficiency of fuel consumption and workability for installation, without decreasing sound insulation characteristic. SOLUTION: An insulator dash 20 mounted on the indoor face of a dash panel 10 is composed of a single sound absorbing layer 21 formed of an assembly of fibers, so that in addition to providing the sound absorption and insulation performance of the insulator dash 20, the insulator provides sound absorption by causing noises reflected from the inner surface of the instrument panel 40 to be absorbed again into the sound absorbing layer 21 from the front side for increased sound insulation performance of the interior of the instrument panel 40. Thus by doing away with a conventional sound insulating layer, weight reduction can be achieved and an increase in sound pressure within the instrument panel 40 is avoided to enhance the silentness of the automobile's interior.
