PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding wire, excellent in feeding property and arc stability, wide in an appropriate welding condition, and small in wear of a contact tip. SOLUTION: The welding wire has the following features ('%' denotes mass%); (1) The amount of copper adhession on the wire surface is 0.05% or less per wire unit mass. (2) A 0.0005-0.0020% coating layer per wire unit mass exists on the wire surface, and the coating layer is to be made of fat and oil containing 1-10% in terms of Mo of one or more kinds selected out of MoS2, MoS3, WS3 and organic molybdenum. The wire may be either the solid wire or the flux-containing wire.
