PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for preventing the duplication of digital contents are provided to encrypt a digital contents file by a file encryption key generated through a multi-stage encryption. CONSTITUTION: An authentication server(100) generates a service registration key according to user information from a client(104) and transmits the generated service registration key to a digital contents providing server(102). The authentication server(100) generates a user right key according to system information from a client terminal and transmits the generated user right key to the client(104). The digital contents providing server(102) generates a file encryption key through a multi-stage encryption by the service registration key and encrypts a digital contents file. The client(104) generates a file decryption key corresponding to the file encryption key through the multi-stage encryption by the user key and decrypts the encrypted digital contents file.
