PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device or control method capable of avoiding erroneous operation when performing the control of focus or zoom while using a rotary ring. SOLUTION: The image pickup device having plural rotary rings for controlling image pickup conditions while using the rotary rings, is provided with a detecting means for each rotary ring for detecting rotation information concerning the rotations of the respective rotary rings and a first rotary ring specifying means for specifying the rotary ring, which first starts rotating from the state of all the plural rotary rings being stopped, as a first rotary ring on the basis of each rotation information, and is configured to control the image pickup conditions on the basis of the rotation information of the first rotary ring. Besides, the rotation information of the rotary ring, which next starts rotating after the lapse of prescribed time further after the stopping of the rotations of the first rotary ring, can be used for controlling the image pickup conditions as well. |
