PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image classifying method allowing the appropriate classification of images while reducing a user's labor. SOLUTION: A person photographed in an image to be classified is extracted (S505), and whether the person is already registered in a classification table is determined (S507). If not registered yet, the image of the person is registered in a person table in the classification table (S509), and the file name of the image is registered correspondingly (S511). In the case the extracted person is already registered, the registration processing of the person is skipped. The same processing is carried out on all the extracted persons (S507-S513). When the registration processing is completed on all the images to be classified, summing processing of the registered results is performed (S519). The file names of the images with the persons photographed are thereby registered automatically for every person photographed in the image, and appropriately classified.
