PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device for making a screen display of a map most suitably from the kind of an object and a destination point desired for reference in a specific area. SOLUTION: This map display device 1 comprises an input device 10 for inputting the object and an area name for a map display, a map data recording device 12 in which map data is recorded; a display condition information recording device 14 for recording object display conditions previously defined corresponding to the inputted object, and area display conditions wherein conditions for specifying a map area is previously defined corresponding to the inputted and specified area name; a processing arithmetic unit 16 for computing an area range for the map display, referring to a display condition table registered in the display condition information recording device 14; and a display device 18 for displaying object information and map information on a screen.
