PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external electrode fluorescent lamp capable of preventing a phenomenon that a visible light emitting surface becomes clouded to improve reliability and quality of liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: This external electrode fluorescent lamp has a glass tube 1 formed with a phosphor film 2 in the inner wall surface thereof and sealed with the discharge medium including at least xenon gas, an internal electrode 3 sealed in the glass tube 1, at least, at one end side thereof with a lead terminal 4 led outside, an external electrode 5 spirally arranged overt the whole length in the tube axial direction, a feeder wire 7 connected to the external electrode 5, a heat shrinkable resin tube 6 for covering the area where the external electrode 5 is spirally wound, and a seal material arranged in the inner wall surface side of the heat shrinkage type resin tube 6, at least, at both ends thereof to seal between the peripheral surface of the glass tube 1.
