Carriage drive device has a base unit (2) and a carriage unit (3) movable relative to it. A drive unit (19) has a casing (22) adjustable relative to the base and carriage units. It includes first and second operating devices (23,24) engaged with the base unit and drive unit respectively. The carriage unit can thus be placed in different positions.
