PURPOSE: An apparatus for inputting a character/number in a communication terminal and an input method therefor are provided to simply input a character signal using a keypad such as a joy stick and a touch screen in which a plurality of signal sensing units are installed. CONSTITUTION: It is judged whether a user pushes a character mode key of a keypad and selects a language-classified character mode(S100). If the corresponding user selects the language-classified character mode, it is judged whether the user selects an input mode among a Hangul input mode, a Roman input mode, a Japanese input mode(S200). If the corresponding user selects the Hangul input mode, a communication terminal detects key signals inputted by the user, reads consonants/vowels and numbers/signs of a corresponding Hangul, combines the read consonants/vowels and numbers/signs, and displays the combined character on an LCD(S300). If the corresponding user selects the Roman input mode, the communication terminal detects key signals inputted by the user, reads consonants/vowels and numbers/signs of a corresponding Roman, combines the read consonants/vowels and numbers/signs, and displays the combined character on the LCD(S400). If the corresponding user selects the Japanese input mode, the communication terminal detects key signals inputted by the user, reads a Hiragana, a Gatakana, Chinese characters, and numbers/signs of a corresponding Japanese, combines the read Hiragana, a Gatakana, Chinese characters, and numbers/signs, and displays the combined character on the LCD(S500). If the character input work is ended through the one input mode among the Hangul input mode, the Roman input mode, the Japanese input mode, the communication terminal judges whether the corresponding user selects a key signal for storing the character(S600). If the corresponding user selects the storing key, the communication terminal stores the character inputted by the user(S700).
