The invention relates to a method for evaluating the protein origin in at least one sample of a protein component obtained from an animal consisting in determining the presence of at least one element in the sample and comparing the element in the sample with at least one reference value. The inventive method is characterised in that the element is a stable isotope and the reference value is a delta score value ( delta <15>N(AIR);( delta <15>N(DPNF), ( delta <15>N(DIET), delta <13>C(collagen), which is representative of the proportion of said isotope in an environment different from the first sample. Furthermore, said method is characterised in that the first sample is analysed in order to determine a first specific delta score value ( delta <15>N(x)), which is representative of the proportion of the stable isotope in said first sample, said reference value ( delta <15>N(AIR);( delta <15>N(DPNF), ( delta <15>N(DIET), delta <13>C(collagen) is compared with said specific value ( delta <15>N(x)) in order to obtain a differential value and, subsequently, it is determined whether said differential value differs by at least one pre-established limit.
