A printer (1) allowing an ink cartridge (consumable item for printing means)(19) to be replaced in a printer body (6), wherein the ink cartridge is installed detachably in an ink cartridge tray (consumable item tray)(8) provided so as to be drawable from the printer body, and a cartridge side connector (37) is connected to a body side connector (38) when the ink cartridge tray is inserted into the printer body, whereby the consumable items for printing means such as ink cartridge and ink ribbon can be replaced with a new one very easily, and the consumable items can be electrically connected easily to the printer body side.
