The clamping device has a double-action hydraulic cylinder (10), to which a double no-return valve (25) is fitted, serving both its chambers (12, 13). An electrically controlled valve device (22, 23, 24) with a continuous path valve (22) controls the flow from the pump (20) to the chamber and tank. A signal processing device supplies the continuous path valve with a setting signal for the magnitude and direction of the setting velocity.
