PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character display device which realizes easiness of character reading as well as listing of displayed information. SOLUTION: A character display device 1 is provided with a display device 10 which displays a character string 81 and a control part 20 which controls the display device 10. The control part 20 has a function to scroll the character string 81 displayed on the display device 10, and the display device 10 includes at least one first display area 60. The control part 20 controls the display device 10 so that the character string 81 may be scrolled while displaying characters in a first size when characters included in the character string 81 are not included in any first display area 60 and the character string 81 may be scrolled while displaying characters in a second size larger than the first size when characters included in the character string 81 are included in one of the first display areas 60. The direction in which the control part 20 scrolls the character string 81 is opposite to the direction in which the display device 10 displays the character string 81.
