PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which the temperature rise of a color filter caused by light from a light source is restrained to prevent the deformation and the damage thereof in terms of image display technique that the light from the light source is separated by a rotary type color filter and radiated to a display device. SOLUTION: By detecting the rotating state of a rotating body provided with the color filter by a detection means and controlling the power source of the light source based on detection output, the light emission of the light source is stopped or reduced at least when the rotation is stopped.
