PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for coating which exhibits improved adhesion to the surface of a molded article made of a polyolefin resin or the like and is excellent in solution stability, compatibility with a coating material, and resistance to weather or heat and a graft polyolefin used therefor. SOLUTION: The graft polyolefin is prepared by (a) dissolving or dispersing an amorphous polyolefin containing propylene- and butene-derived monomer units and modified with an acid anhydride in an organic solvent to give a solution or dispersion, (b) adding a hydroxyl-containing free-radically polymerizable monomer to the solution or dispersion to react the acid-anhydride-modified polyolefin with the hydroxyl-containing free-radically polymerizable monomer, and (c) adding at least one free-radically polymerizable monomer and a free radical initiator to cause graft polymerization. The resin composition for coating contains the graft polyolefin.
