PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ladle hook abnormality detecting device capable of omitting an operator's monitoring work by detecting the abnormal hook hanging state in hanging a hook to a ladle so that the hook hanging work can be automated. SOLUTION: Load applied to a sheave shaft 11 of a sheave 4 suspending the ladle hook 1 engaged with a trunnion 9 of the ladle 8 is detected by a load cell 16, a detection signal 17 is inputted to a control part 19, and a detection signal 18 of a rotation amount detector 13 for detecting the height of the ladle hook 1 according to the rotation amount of a drum shaft 12 of a hoisting drum 5 for hoisting the ladle hook 1 is also inputted to the control part 19. According to these signals 17,18, the abnormal state of the ladle hook 1 is determined in the control part 19.
