PURPOSE:To improve oxidation resistance by adding magnesium boride to a mixture containing a prescribed weight ratio of carbon and the main component composed of a fire-resistant material as the remainder component. CONSTITUTION:With 30-40wt.% carbon such as flaky graphite or carbon black having <=0.5mm particle size, a fire-resistant oxide, as the remainder component, composed of magnesia, silica, etc., and having a particle size adjusted to a coarse size, a moderate size or a fine size is blended and, as necessary, a metal powder such as Al or Si is admixed therewith to obtain a composition. To the resultant composition, 0.1-10wt.% Mg2B3 of <=0.5mm particle size or 0.1-10wt.% mixture composed of >=3wt.% Mg2B3 and boron is added to obtain a mixed composition. A binder such as phenol resin is then added to the resultant mixed composition and, after pressure molding, heat treatment is carried out at 100-600 deg.C, thus producing a carbon-containing fire-resistant material. |
