PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method for producing a cast slab having high quality excellent in the surface quality and the internal quality by impressing shifting magnetic field to molten steel discharged vertically downward from a straight nozzle to control the descending stream of the molten steel. SOLUTION: Upward shifting magnetic field is impressed to a range from a meniscus between long side surfaces at both sides of the straight nozzle and the straight nozzle, to the lower end part of a mold, so that the descending stream of the molten steel discharged vertically downward from the straight nozzle is made to interfere with the ascending stream of the molten steel streaming upward with the shifting magnetic field.
