PURPOSE: A winding method of a web is provided to wind the large roll more than 1.5 m in diameter and 3 m in width efficiently and conveniently by loading and supporting the roll with the unit. CONSTITUTION: A web(W) is wound onto a spool(14) by a support roll(16) while passed through a nip(N) formed between the support roll and a roll(15). The spool is supported partially, and the spool or the roll is supported and loaded by a device(20) whose position can be shifted. At the initial stage of winding, a loading/supporting unit(24) of the device is shifted substantially in the plane passing through the axes of the support roll and of the roll produced in the winding position. While winding, the loading/supporting unit of the device is shifted downward substantially along a path parallel to the circumference of the roll. At the final stage of winding, the roll is supported with the loading/supporting unit from the lower part.
