PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an area monitoring system for a movable body and an area monitoring method for the movable body by which the position of the movable body is calculated with high precision by supplementing a GPS(global positioning system) signal from a GPS satellite with a base station signal, a prescribed monitoring area is minutely and freely set based on the position and an area of the movable body is monitored. SOLUTION: The area monitoring system for the movable body is provided with a portable terminal to be held by the movable body, having a GPS receiving part and a receiving part to receive the base station signal and for transmitting a positioning signal based on the received signal, a positional information calculation center to receive the GPS signal to be transmitted by the portable terminal and/or the positioning signal based on the base station signal and to calculate positional information of the movable body based on the positioning signal and a movable body monitoring center to monitor the movable body by setting the prescribed monitoring area based on a prescribed position of the movable body.
