PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MR head, by which a signal from a magnetic recording medium recorded with high density is reproducible and a signal from a magnetic recording medium recorded with low density is also reproducible with a satisfied S/N ratio having less distortion, and also a magnetic recording/reproducing device mounted with such MR head. SOLUTION: An MR element 21 consisting of the tunnel magneto-resistance effect element utilizing spin valve is arranged on at least a part of a magnetic path. A free layer 22 constituting the MR element 21 consists of the anisotropic magneto-resistance effect material and also provides the function as the anisotropic magneto-resistance effect element. Output terminals 5, 23 for detecting the signal are arranged on both of the MR element 21 and the free layer 22.
