PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that detects dust deposited on a photo film or a flaw made on the photo film without the need for reading an image. SOLUTION: An LED 15 consists of LED elements that emit R, G, B lights and an infrared ray. The LED element 15IR emits an infrared ray of 800-1000 nm. A filter 30 cuts off a wavelength component of 800-900 nm. The infrared ray emitted from the LED element 15IR passes through the filter 30 and made incident onto a diffusion box 16. The infrared ray is led upward while being reflected in an inner face of the diffusion box, diffused by the diffusion plate 31 and emitted to a photo film 27. The infrared ray of only the wavelength component in excess of 900 nm is emitted on the photo film 27. Thus, only dust deposited on the photo film and a flaw made to the photo film can be detected without the need for reading an image.
