PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture forming apparatus which is effectively miniaturized and made low-price, and a method for using the same. SOLUTION: In this picture forming apparatus for creating data of a display- output picture to be outputted and displayed on a picture display device, texture source pictures 23a, 23b, 23c, being information relevant to the display-output picture, and a translation table 24 such as a color look-up table are written in a free area 22 other than a display area 21, being a storage area of the display-output picture in a video memory 14. Thus, to provide an exclusive video memory for storing the texture source pictures or a video memory for exclusively storing the color look-up table is not necessary and the video memory can be saved.
