PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that captures shading correction data at the same position as a position of an original so as to prevent occurrence of black streaks and uneven density when reading in a half-tone copy image and avoids an original from getting clogged. SOLUTION: In the case of reading white reference data for shading correction by the image reader that reads an image from an original placed on a contact glass plate, a white pressure board (4) is in close contact with the contact glass plate (8). When the original is carried, a spacer (6) placed at both sides of a square rods (7) for the white pressure board is controlled by a spacer control means to lift up the white pressure board (4) more than the case with reading white reference data. This invention provides two claims more.
