PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst component for addition polymerization useful for preparation of a highly active catalyst for addition polymerization, the highly active catalyst for addition polymerization and an effective method for producing the addition polymer. SOLUTION: This catalyst component for addition polymerization is composed of a transition metal compound having two transition metal atoms in one molecule. This catalyst for addition polymerization is obtained by bringing the transition metal compound into contact with one or more kinds of organoaluminum compounds, one or more kinds of aluminoxanes selected from cyclic and/or linear aluminoxanes, and/or a specific boron compound or bringing the transition metal compound into contact with one or more kinds of aluminoxanes selected from cyclic and/or linear aluminoxanes, and/or a specific boron compound. This method for producing an addition polymer comprises using the catalyst for addition polymerization.
