<p>PURPOSE:To acurately detect position with high durability and good operability by magnetically recording a specific repetitive pattern onto a ball provided at one end of a cylindrical case rotatably in a free direction. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical case 1 is provided with an index 9 indicating the top and bottom when the position detecting device is gripped in the hand and a click switch 10 for clicking a cursor on the display screen of a computer device. A user holds the position detecting device like a ball-point pen with the index 9 up and moves the device while bringing the ball 2 into contact with a desk 8, etc. Consequently, the ball 2 rotates by friction against the desk 8 and a dot 2a passes through detecting elements D1-D9 provided in a magnetic head 4. The respective detecting elements D1-D9 detect the passing dot 2a and generate and output signals indicating the movement direction and movement distance. Consequently, the cursor on the display screen of the computer device can be moved.</p> |
