PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image reader where line intervals of a monolithic 3-line sensor in the subscanning direction are made symmetrical. SOLUTION: In the line scanning type digital color reader of this invention having the monolithic 3-line sensor 3 where linear solid-state image pickup element arrays are placed on one substrate at a finite interval by 3 lines at a right angle to the direction of the arrays, an image optical system that forms an image of an object onto faces of the sensor elements, and a reflection type blazed diffraction grating 1 to separate a received light into 3 RGB colors, a line interval correction prism (optical correction member) 2 is placed at a position where each luminous flux separated into the 3 RGB colors from the reflection type blazed diffraction grating 1 is not overlapped with each other.
