<p>A telephone gateway device (10) that operates in a manner transparent to calling and called parties is provided. The gateway (10) includes a port (17) for connecting one or more POTS devices (20a-20c), a port (13) for connecting to a local PSTN (16), a modem (24), and a network interface (30). The gateway (10) selectively routes toll calls made on an attached POTS device (20a-20c) over a computer network, such as the internet (22), via either the modem (24) or the network interface (30). Methods of routing and facilitating telephone connections over a computer network are also provided.</p> |
