PURPOSE: A method for matching a cable and a monitor performing the method are provided to match a same video input source with the video and the serial communication cables regardless of a connection state of the cables. CONSTITUTION: The monitor(80) performing the cable matching method comprises a video connector(82), a communication connector(84), a controller(86), a display(88), a signal synthesizer(90), an OSD(On Screen Display) unit and a storing unit(94). The monitor connects to the first and the second external video input source(70,72) and the first and the second video cable(100,102). Each video input source is a PC, and the first and the second video cable transfer the video signals respectively output from the video input sources. The first and the second serial communication cable(104,106) are prepared between the video input sources and the monitor. The monitor exchanges the communication signals with the video input sources through the serial communication cables. The serial communication cables are up-screen connected to the first and the second communication connector(114,116) electrically and are realized by a USB(Universal Serial Bus) cable.
