The optical receiver has a divider (1.1) which divides the received optical signal (S) into two electrical components (S-,S+). These are fed to the respective outputs (1.16,1.17), which are coupled to an equaliser (1.2) ;which provides a data signal (D) at its output (1.10). A control circuit (1.3) controls the divider in accordance with a transmission quality signal (Q) provided by the equaliser. The divider may have a polarisation setting stage (1.7), an optical divider (1.6) and two polarisers (1.4,1.5) providing the orthogonal polarised components, which are converted into electrical signals using photodiodes (1.8,1.9).
|
