PURPOSE:To obtain a binder composition which comprises a novolak type phenolic resin, a specific epoxy resin and a specific epoxy resin and a specific organic solvent and can reduce the expansion and cracking of refractory bricks mainly containing basic aggregates. CONSTITUTION:The binder composition comprises (A) a novolak type phenolic resin, preferably modified with an aromatic hydrocarbon resin such as xylene resin or mesitylene resin, (B) an epoxy resin bearing 2 or more epoxy groups every molecule, and (C) one or more solvents selected from ketones, esters, ethers, ester-ethers, ketone-esters, ketone-ethers and hydrocarbons boiling at a temperature over 75 deg.C, and preferably (D) an organophosphine compound as a hardening accelerator. The equivalent ratio between the hydroxy groups in component A and the epoxy groups in component B is 0.5 to 1.5, preferably 0.7 to 1.3. |
